Not Quite Black and White by Jonathan and Victoria Ying, 2016
Not Quite Black and White by Jonathan and Victoria Ying is a unique take on a color concept book that presents various anthropomorphic animals who stand out from a crowd. “Most zebras wear stripes, but this one does not. She much prefers dressing in PINK polka dot!” Each two-page spread is presented in black and white with only the highlighted color shown at the top of the page, in the text, and on the animal’s clothing. In addition to the primary and secondary colors, additional shades including lavender, aqua, and maroon are introduced.

The rhyming text, adorable illustrations, and underlying message celebrating uniqueness makes this a great book to read to a group or while snuggling up with a toddler. It is available as a board book and picture book.
