I Love Cake!: starring Rabbit, Porcupine, and Moose by Tammi Sauer; illustrated by Angie Rozelaar, 2016
(Ages 4 – 8)
This story of forgiveness could not be sweeter. A moose, a porcupine and a rabbit are all best friends. When it is time to celebrate Rabbit’s birthday, Moose quickly becomes distracted by the temptation of the delicious birthday cake. When the cake disappears Moose reluctantly admits to being the culprit. Moose brainstorms a way to make it up to his friends and finds that forgiveness and friendship are even sweeter than cake.
I knew this book was a winner when we finished it and my son said, “Mommy, let’s read it again.” My four year-old loved the adorable illustrations and how the text lends itself nicely to reading in a silly voice. He even loved browsing the end papers, which features rows and rows of scrumptious looking cakes. This is also a fun way to link cooking and literature. After reading this book, my son and I looked up cupcakes to make together.
While this is a very fun and silly book, I also like the underlying message of apologizing for your actions, making amends, and forgiving others.
Well, I ha&evn#8217;t started any crafts, but am also planning to do a lot of DIYs with the help of my fiance and family! Thank you again for the inspiration. I am sure I’ll be asking your advice when I begin!
